At Granata Plumbing, we have a few sure fire ways to ensure you maintain healthy and functioning sewers….making sure you don’t get problems with blocked sewers in your home.
Coming into spring many people would think that this is the time of year that tree roots might be bursting into your sewer as it is the most likely period of year for trees to pollinate. However spring is the most common time for foliage growth, summer is when the trees trunk grows, autumn and winter is when the tree roots do most of their growing. If any tree roots were to penetrate your sewer it would have happened between March and August. With the New South Wales government declaring that 100% of the state is now drought affected your tree roots are searching for water and if planted above or near a sewer or storm water line that is exactly where they will be heading.
If your house is any older then 30 years there is a good chance that the plumbers would have used Earthenware pipe. Even though these pipe were heavy and ridged they were mainly made in 1200mm lengths and joined with a rubber ring. These pipes did not allow for a lot of movement and with time the ground around these pipes will shift allowing small cracks or moved joints to appear. This is the most likely area for tree roots to enter your sewer and start to grow inside causing blockages and breaks. Here at Granata Plumbing Solutions we have all the equipment to inspect, diagnose, clear and repair your affected sewer to have it flowing and functioning correctly again.
If your house is 30 years or younger the sewer was most likely constructed out of PVC. Plumbers moved to PVC as it was lighter, more flexible, water tight, has a better coefficient of friction meaning that water flows easier through the pipe, came out in 6 metre lengths and is proven to be quiet sturdy and durable. Even though PVC sewer pipes have water tight joints and make it very hard for tree roots to penetrate the sewer or form cracks they tend to grow around the sewer pipe causing it to be squashed minimising the flow and/or lifting the pipe causing it to have backflow and causing blockages to your sewer. Here at Granata Plumbing Solutions we have all the equipment to inspect, diagnose, clear and repair your affected sewer to have it flowing and functioning correctly again.
How to know if there are issues with your sewer
Gurgling of plumbing fixtures
If a plumbing fixture gurgles when draining this normally indicates that the sewer line may have a small blockage struggling to let air through the sewer helping it to flow. If this gurgling noise occurs mainly in a bathroom area excluding the toilet your floor waste may just need to be cleaned.
Overflowing gully
All Australian houses will have a Gully on their sewer located on the outside of the house. These Gullies are normally located outside of a kitchen or laundry and occasionally underneath a garden tap. The main reason for a Gully is so that if your sewer line Is blocked it should overflow from this point as it Is lower then the house and prevent sewerage discharging inside of the property. If you notice that your Gully is overflowing or filling up we recommend that you contact us at Granata Plumbing for an inspection of your sewer.
Smell
You may not always be able to see signs of a blocked sewer. If there is a small collapse or break in a pipe some of your sewerage may be leaking into the ground and still allowing your sewer to function. If you notice an unpleasant odour coming from within your property we advise that you contact us at Granata Plumbing to inspect the issue.
